Description

Meet Markie – The Queen of Disapproval and Cuddles!

Have you ever wanted a cat who will adore you and silently judge your every move? Well, Markie is here to fulfill that dream! With her signature disapproving glare, this stunning gray dilute calico is an expert in the art of looking unimpressed—whether you’re serving her dinner (too slow), rearranging furniture (why?), or simply existing in her presence (tsk tsk).

But don’t be fooled by her stern expression—underneath that gaze is a total sweetheart! Markie loves attention, enjoys being held, and will happily lean in for pets once she decides you’re worthy. She’s got a soft, plush coat perfect for snuggling, a round full belly that’s just begging for gentle pats, and a quiet but loving personality that will melt your heart.

At 10.4 pounds, Markie is a bigger girl, which just means more of her to love! Markie has an estimated DOB of 1/16/2023, putting her just over 2 years old. She’s spayed, tested negative for feline leukemia/FIV, fully vaccinated, flea- and worm-free, and all-around ready to go to her forever home. She seems to get along well with laid-back kitty friends, so she’d make a great addition to a chill feline crew.

Markie is waiting for a home where she can be pampered, admired, and occasionally roll her eyes at your life choices. Could it be yours?

Adoption process

Our adoption fees vary between adults and kittens. Our kittens come with an age appropriate program (provided through certificate) for our veterinarian only.

We make sure all our cats receive a health screening, tested for feline aids and feline leukemia when appropriate ages, spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated for rabies (1yr), distemper and leukemia.

We also worm and flea treat all of our cats, again all as age appropriate. We also treat any cat/kitten that comes to our sanctuary for any illnesses present, or that develop while in our care.

We require an appointment for adopting, as well as a verifiable veterinarian reference, which we require prior to scheduling an actual adoption visit.

We contact your veterinarian reference to insure our cats/kittens are being placed in responsible, loving homes.

Additionally, we require a cat carrier be brought to the adoption appointment for transport home. No laundry baskets, boxes, lap holding, is acceptable. No exceptions.

We have a private shelter address other than our mailing address which is featured on this site. Many of our cats are in foster care, so appropriate appointments need to be made with proper foster families. Our cats are featured on our website as well as PetFinder.com and our Facebook page.

Shelter location

Call us at 419-289-3658 to schedule an appointment. Because our cats are not used to cages, they do not travel to adoption events.

Caged cats become scared when people poke at them through the bars. How would you like that? So we want you to come and see them in their natural environment.

We try to accommodate any time frame within reason.

Visit our website at https://www.catsanctuaryashland.org/ to see some of our cats today!

We also have a Facebook page where we keep everyone up to date on new cats coming into our facility; as well, https://www.facebook.com/TheCatHouseFelineSanctuary/ .

    Breed info

Calico cats are domestic cats with a spotted or particolored coat that is predominantly white, with patches of two other colors (often orange and black, sometimes gray). Outside North America, the pattern is more usually called tortoiseshell and white. In the province of Quebec, Canada, they are sometimes called chatte d'Espagne (French for '(female) cat of Spain'). Other names include brindle, tricolor cat, tobi mi-ke (Japanese for 'triple fur'), and lapjeskat (Dutch for 'patches cat'); calicoes with diluted coloration have been called calimanco or clouded tiger. Occasionally, the tri-color calico coloration is combined with a tabby patterning; this calico-patched tabby is called a caliby. "Calico" refers only to a color pattern on the fur, not to a breed or two-colored eyes on a cat. Among the breeds whose standards allow calico coloration are the Manx, American Shorthair, British Shorthair, Persian, Arabian Mau, Japanese Bobtail, Exotic Shorthair, Siberian, Turkish Van, Turkish Angora and Norwegian Forest Cat.
