Meet Luna, our sweet and beautiful rabbit! She joined us from the San Diego Humane Society back in February 2023. At first, she was a bit shy, but with the right toys-like willow and wooden chews-she really starts to come out of her shell. Luna is super curious and loves to watch everything around her. Once she feels at home, she'll come over to sniff you and might even hop onto your back for a little adventure! Luna enjoys her spaces having carpet, and it really helps her explore and feel safe while doing so!

Just a heads up, though: she's not a fan of being picked up and can be protective of her stuff. Since being in foster care, Luna has really blossomed into a loving companion. She enjoys pets and will flop down next to you when she's comfy. If you're ready to give Luna the love and patience she needs, she's waiting for someone who will appreciate her for the amazing bunny she is!

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious and deadly disease that affects both wild and domestic rabbits. The virus is causing deaths in rabbits and hares native to North America and is spreading rapidly. In addition to detection of RHDV2 in wild cottontail rabbits and jackrabbits, RHDV2 has been confirmed in domestic rabbits on 50 premises, including a detection in a feral domestic rabbit. Please make sure to vaccinate your rabbits every year. For more information, please visit our website at: https://sandiegorabbits.org/education/rhdv

    Breed info

Chinchillas are either of two species (Chinchilla chinchilla and Chinchilla lanigera) of crepuscular rodents of the parvorder Caviomorpha. They are slightly larger and more robust than ground squirrels, and are native to the Andes mountains in South America. They live in colonies called "herds" at high elevations of up to 4,270 m (14,000 ft). Historically, chinchillas lived in an area that included parts of Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, and Chile, but today, colonies in the wild are known only in Chile. Along with their relatives, viscachas, they make up the family Chinchillidae. They are also related to the chinchilla rat. The chinchilla has the densest fur of all mammals that live on land. In the water, the sea otter has a denser coat. The chinchilla is named after the Chincha people of the Andes, who once wore its dense, velvet-like fur. By the end of the 19th century, chinchillas had become quite rare after being hunted for their ultra-soft fur.[7] Most chinchillas currently used by the fur industry for clothing and other accessories are farm-raised. Domestic chinchillas descended from C. lanigera are sometimes kept as pets, and may be considered a type of pocket pet.
