UPDATE:
You’ll never tire of sinking your fingers into Arty’s dense, luxurious coat as she curls up with you for a lap nap! Arty gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs, but will need time to warm up to them. Her favorite things to do is to sunbathe outside and then to cuddle and burrow under the covers on the big bed. She is independent and patient, but loves walks and cuddles when you invite her. Arty came to CTDR with her best friend, Cheeky, after their owner passed away. Arty and Cheeky must be adopted together, and they are just looking for a family where they can spend their golden years. If you would like to give these two girls their forever home, please complete an application at www.ctdr.org.

Adoption process
Adoption Fee:On average, we spend $296 in vet expenses on each dog that we take in. To help us cover those expenses, on November 1, 2004 our adoption fee will increase to $250, and puppies under 1 year of age will be $300.
1.) Complete our online ADOPTION APPLICATION at (www.ctdr.org/phpform/forms/application.html) and list the names of all the dogs you're interested in. If you don't currently see a dog that matches your family, please tell us more about what you're looking for. We have new dogs weekly and will contact you if a dog comes in that meets your requirements. Don't forget to list the name and number of your current veterinarian and landlord, if applicable! We will contact your current vet, landlord and personal references, if needed.
2.) After we receive your application, we'll contact you to discuss the specifics of what you're looking for. We will try to contact you within 3-7 days, but we are all volunteers and have full time jobs, so be patient with us!
3.) Once we have completed all reference checks, we will schedule a home visit where someone from our organization will come to your home and meet you and your family and any pets you currently have.
4.) Finally, we will schedule a time when your family and pet(s) can meet your desired rescue dachshund. If a long transport is involved, we ask the potential adopter to arrange the transportation of the dog.

Shelter location
Unlike a shelter or humane society, our dogs are not in one central location, but spread throughout many foster homes across the state. We realize that this makes it difficult to 'come meet our dogs,' but we believe the one-on-one care our dachshunds receive is well worth the inconvenience. We will work with you to schedule a meet and greet with one or more of our dogs that are determined to be a good match for you and your family.
