Description

Nala was found abandoned with her four tiny kittens at a vet's office in Mt. Airy, NC. Luckily, the refuge was contacted about their rescue, and Nala and her babies were lovingly cared for by one of our wonderful foster families to ensure they all received plenty of individualized care. Nala is a beautiful long-haired tabby girl: a rare occurrence since most orange tabbies are males! She is extremely shy and cautious around new people and can often be found hanging out around our shy cat room where she enjoys the many perches and the extra layer of security offered by this quieter, low traffic space. Nala is a cat for experienced cat owners only who understand patience, cat communication/body language and the need to allow the cat to bloom and bond 100% at their own pace over time. The home environment needs to be peaceful and tranquil, with no children under the age of 16. If you would like to meet Nala, please stop by for a visit during our visiting hours Friday-Sunday between 11 AM-3 PM and our volunteers would be happy to initiate an introduction. Approx. DOB: 07/11/2015

If interested in adopting from the Goathouse Refuge, please plan to take the following steps required in our adoption process:
1. Come for a Visit: We are open 11am - 3 PM Saturday and Sunday. Fridays are by appointment.
2. Complete our online application: Visit our website (click link above or go to www.goathouserefuge.org under the 'adopt' tab).
3. Home Visit: All adoption applications will be reviewed by the refuge staff, and if the applicant seems to be a good fit for the cat(s) of interest, the refuge will contact the interested party to set up a home visit. Only after a representative of the refuge conducts a home visit will the refuge then consider continuing with the adoption process.

    Breed info

Like the domestic short-haired cat, this is not a breed, but a non-breed classification of mixed-breed cats. Domestic cat (Felis catus) A domestic long-haired cat is a cat of mixed ancestry – thus not belonging to any particular recognised cat breed – possessing a coat of semi-long to long fur. Domestic long-haired cats should not be confused with the British Longhair, American Longhair, or other breeds with "Longhair" names, which are standardized breeds defined by various registries. Domestic long-haireds are the second most popular cat in the United States after the domestic short-haired; one in ten of the ninety million cats in the US is a domestic long-hair. Other generic terms are long-haired house cat and, in British English, long-haired moggie.
