Description

Adoption process

Phone and in-person interviews and meet and greet with the prospective adopter(s), require all parties fro the household to be participating and present for interviews, adoption fees vary depending on animal history and needs. Final determination made in the best interest of the adopter and animal, after time spent contemplating on both ends of the adoption process (both adoption counselor and adopter). We do not do same-day adoptions to ensure that the environment is best for both family and pet, and adopters are educated about this policy as well.

Shelter location

We are at the Downers Grove PetSmart (1550 S. Butterfield Rd., Downers Grove IL) and are doing meet & greets and adoptions by appointment, though you can come in any time to see our cats ready for adoption. All of our cats ready for forever are also listed on our website here: https://www.chicagolandanimalrescue.org/adoption. Please contact us through our website to set up a time to spend some one-on-one interaction time with our cats.

    Breed info

Like the domestic long-haired cat, this is not a breed, but a non-breed classification of mixed-breed cats. Domestic cat (Felis catus) A domestic short-haired cat is a cat of mixed ancestry—thus not belonging to any particular recognized cat breed—possessing a coat of short fur. In British English, they are often referred to as moggies. Domestic short-haired cats should not be confused with the British Shorthair, American Shorthair, or other standardized breeds with "Shorthair" names, which are breeds recognized by various registries. Domestic short-haireds are the most common cat in the United States, accounting for around 90–95% of their number. Other generic terms include house cat and alley cat (the latter may be used more specifically to refer to feral specimens). The term tabby cat technically refers to a coat pattern, but is also often used as a general term for cats of this sort.
