Description

Sloane is a Domestic Short Hair (DSH), female, DOB: 5/1/18.

Highly social and intelligent as well as keenly perceptive, Sloane loves to be around and near daily household activities, just knowing she is included, without needing or wanting to be directly involved. Always happy-to-be present, she also enjoys gently spoken words of encouragement and light-to-the-touch, hands-on attention from her favorite people, but she prefers to take a slower approach when meeting new people, giving the all clear with enthusiastic head butts when she’s ready for pets. Although she tolerates being picked up by those she knows and trusts, this is only acceptable when the mood suits her. Sloane prefers to have all four paws on the floor, and she is happiest knowing she has the ability to come and go as she pleases.

Very much possessing an inner kitten, Sloane is an exuberantly playful and enthusiastically expressive feline. Not too picky making decisions about the toys she plays with, she will readily show her attentive side if offered the same. Also not one for leaving awkward silences in the room, Sloane enjoys talking to people too – soft-spoken, calm conversation always helps to boost her confidence, often to the point that she becomes a chatterbox, but whatever mood she’s feeling, she’s a feline who lets her people know.

By nature a sincere and sweet cat, Sloane is also highly-sensitive, and she entirely wears her heart on her sleeve. She’s quite earnest but perhaps lacking a bit in patience sometimes. Like her sibling Bishop, Sloane is lively and engaging with people she knows and trusts. She’s also curiously interested in her environment and will be looking for adventure wherever she can find it. She’s pretty content to explore on her own, sometimes, too, enjoying being able to independently prowl and stalk shadows, dust bunnies, toys, or whatever is available. In all of these activities though she can get overstimulated, so it is important for her people to understand that a soft approach with redirection and encouragement goes a long way with this fine feline, particularly with interactive play and hands-on attention.

Also like her sibling Bishop, Sloane is extremely animated and expressive – fawningly devoted and loving to her chosen people, she can sometimes be moody, and on occasion, she has even been known to be rebellious and brash. And so too, trust is a two-way street and a priority with Sloane. While also an extremely social cat who is willing to initiate and accept hands-on attention and affection, it’s pretty much on her terms. A cat with an independent streak, Sloane isn’t particularly shy about letting her people know when she’d rather be on her own for a bit either.

Best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a calm, low-active lifestyle; without active, young children under the age of twelve (12); and without active or unruly pets already in the household. That being said, we think Bishop could and will do well in a home with calm, cat-friendly dogs and possibly other compatible cats (we know she previously lived in a home with over 70 other cats), so long as she is given the time she will need to adjust to her new environment and allowed to establish trust-bonds along with reasonable boundaries with other housemate pets. As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable animals, a home visit and a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be required prior to adoption.

Sloane came to Monroe SPCA from animal control – she previously came from a hoarding situation and had recently miscarried 3 kittens while at animal control. Malnourished and depressed at intake as well as pretty defensive, Sloane needed treatment for a URI, ear infection, Giardia, Coccidia, fleas, and Tape and Roundworm when first coming to us.

Now a healthy, happy, mostly confident cat, she’s looking for a forever family who will welcome and embrace her as a life-long, beloved companion and family member, and always appreciate her as the entirely sincere and earnest, somewhat independent, very beautiful feline she is.

Sloane currently resides at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store. You can meet her by appointment with pre-approved adoption application. To start the adoption process, complete and submit Monroe SPCA’s adoption application linked above.

All Monroe SPCA cats available for adoption have an adoption fee of $85.00. This fee includes the cat being spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, tested for FeLV and FIV, and microchipped with lifelong registration prior to adoption.

Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at Monroe SPCA’s Adoption Center and Retail Store located at 293 W. Monroe Street, Dundee, MI.

    Breed info

Like the domestic long-haired cat, this is not a breed, but a non-breed classification of mixed-breed cats. Domestic cat (Felis catus) A domestic short-haired cat is a cat of mixed ancestry—thus not belonging to any particular recognized cat breed—possessing a coat of short fur. In British English, they are often referred to as moggies. Domestic short-haired cats should not be confused with the British Shorthair, American Shorthair, or other standardized breeds with "Shorthair" names, which are breeds recognized by various registries. Domestic short-haireds are the most common cat in the United States, accounting for around 90–95% of their number. Other generic terms include house cat and alley cat (the latter may be used more specifically to refer to feral specimens). The term tabby cat technically refers to a coat pattern, but is also often used as a general term for cats of this sort.
