-- RECOVERING FROM EYE SURGERY --

Plum is a special girl looking for someone who loves unique kitties! She came through one of our local shelters as a tiny orphaned nugget at about 2 weeks old last May. As her eyes opened and she grew, we could see that her eyes were shaped uniquely, almost slanted instead of round. She had a condition called 'eyelid agenesis', where she was missing her upper eyelids, which caused her fur to be in contact with her eye at all times. Can you imagine the discomfort?

One of our rescue vets recognized this condition and in an attempt to salvage her vision, performed surgeries to reconstruct an upper eyelid using her lower eyelid. While this was initially successful, unfortunately a recent infection has damaged her eyes and remaining vision and she just had surgery to remove both eyes. While disappointing that she did not retain her vision long-term, this will ultimately prevent any additional eye complications and discomfort, and blind kitties thrive just like regular sighted kitties! She's already feeling so much better!

Plum is a character - having spent so much time being treated, or in an e-collar to protect her surgical progress, she is a little clingy and likes to grab your hand and hug it while she licks you. She should do well with a social kitty friend. She is currently in her longtime foster home and accustomed to other foster kitties that are in her environment, though she is separated from direct contact until she heals fully. Once healed, she'll be able to interact with some foster buddies.

We LOVE seeing our babies adopted in pairs… having a familiar sibling/buddy helps ease their transition to a new home, and gives them a constant companion for life.  For more great reasons to adopt a pair, visit http://www.kittenlady.org/twokittens.

    Breed info

Like the domestic long-haired cat, this is not a breed, but a non-breed classification of mixed-breed cats. Domestic cat (Felis catus) A domestic short-haired cat is a cat of mixed ancestry—thus not belonging to any particular recognized cat breed—possessing a coat of short fur. In British English, they are often referred to as moggies. Domestic short-haired cats should not be confused with the British Shorthair, American Shorthair, or other standardized breeds with "Shorthair" names, which are breeds recognized by various registries. Domestic short-haireds are the most common cat in the United States, accounting for around 90–95% of their number. Other generic terms include house cat and alley cat (the latter may be used more specifically to refer to feral specimens). The term tabby cat technically refers to a coat pattern, but is also often used as a general term for cats of this sort.
