Description

Kittens are full of energy, curiosity, and chaos—in the best way! At this age, they’re little sponges, soaking up everything they experience. With consistent love, play, and guidance, they can be shaped into confident, well-mannered companions. But keep in mind, what you see now is just the beginning—kittens’ true personalities start to shine as they grow and settle into their environment. Whether they end up being a bold explorer, a loyal lap cat, or a bit of both, the journey is full of joy, surprises, and lots of purrs.

We highly recommend adopting kittens in pairs or into a home with another playful pet. Growing up with a buddy helps kittens like Marble learn social skills, burn off energy, and grow into happy, well-adjusted cats.

Bonus! When you adopt from Friends For Life, you’re never in it alone. We provide guidance and support on how to help Marble adjust to your home—everything from introducing them to other pets to setting up a kitten-friendly space. Our team is here to make sure your adoption is a success, for both you and your new best friend.

Ready to fall in love? Apply to adopt Marble today—this tiny explorer is waiting to make your life a whole lot cuter! ?

Adoption process

We have a $95 adoption fee for cats and dogs that covers shots, testing, health checks and age-appropriate spay or neuter. All cats and dogs are micro chipped; dogs are on heartworm preventative.

Our adopters must be 21, have ID and must undergo an interview, fill out an application and sign contracts related to commitments for the care of the animals. We will check veterinary references and landlord information.

No animals may be adopted as gifts and and all members of the caretaking family must be in agreement about the adoption.

Should an adoption not work out we require the animal to be returned to Friends For Life.

Our dog adoption application may be filled out online at: http://nokill1.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs.
Our cat adoption application may be filled out online at: http://nokill1.org/adopt/adoptable-cats.

Shelter location

FRIENDS FOR LIFE
The Don Sanders Adoption Center
107 E. 22nd Street
Houston, TX 77008
713-863-9835

HOURS:
11-4PM Wednesday - Monday
Closed Tuesday

We are currently located in the Historic Heights. Our shelter looks more like a gallery than a shelter! Incredible photography is displayed in our lobby. Care has been taken with every detail of the building. We are bringing in 100% outside fresh air and turning over the air in each space completely 15 times an hour. We have made certain that sunlight reaches every animal (and staff) workspace and even engaged a professional acoustician from the beginning to ensure that we manage the sound for everyone's comfort. We have cageless cat rooms with 19-foot ceilings and climbers everywhere to keep the kitties happy and healthy. We have a 'real life' dog living area set up for the dogs. Our shelter is unlike any you've ever experienced! You have to see it to believe it!

We need adoption counselors, docents and animal "smoochers" to keep everyone feeling loved. We also need, welcome and swoon over our foster parents!

Our volunteers and foster parents are like gold to us. Please consider joining this energetic and positive group! If you'd like to volunteer, please just email us below or drop by!
[email protected]

Come by and visit! Even if you are not adopting an animal, we have well-trained staff to answer pet related questions, a wealth of training, medical and behavioral information and a fun atmosphere to just drop in and get your fix of animal love!

As always, Friends For Life is a No Kill organization.

    Breed info

Like the domestic long-haired cat, this is not a breed, but a non-breed classification of mixed-breed cats. Domestic cat (Felis catus) A domestic short-haired cat is a cat of mixed ancestry—thus not belonging to any particular recognized cat breed—possessing a coat of short fur. In British English, they are often referred to as moggies. Domestic short-haired cats should not be confused with the British Shorthair, American Shorthair, or other standardized breeds with "Shorthair" names, which are breeds recognized by various registries. Domestic short-haireds are the most common cat in the United States, accounting for around 90–95% of their number. Other generic terms include house cat and alley cat (the latter may be used more specifically to refer to feral specimens). The term tabby cat technically refers to a coat pattern, but is also often used as a general term for cats of this sort.
