Description

AJ is eight years old and weighs in around 55 pounds (would you believe genetic testing showed that he was 50% Chihuahua?!) He walks fantastically on a leash and loves to lay by you on the couch, but will also be pleasantly happy on a dog bed or the floor. He knows basic sign language for common commands. His favorite snack is popcorn, and he also enjoys peanut butter, plain yogurt, all dog cookies and snacks. He is very well house trained, and will let you know when he has to go out by staring and poking you with his nose, while making a small mooing sound! He does not love baths, but will tolerate them without much of a fight. He gets the zoomies after fresh air, and definitely after having a bowel movement. He`ll engage you in a game of tug for a short bit, but as otherwise is rather calm and lazy. AJ would do best in a home that isnt super chaotic. An adult only home would be best, otherwise an home with older children (13 years+).

Adoption process

Our process includes the completion of an application Upon completion of the application we will:

Contact your vet for information on current and previous animals. It is critical that you have authorized your vet to release information to us.

If you are a renter, we will contact your landlord for verification of animal acceptance, or you can provide a copy of your lease.

Complete a background check using publicly available information.

If applying to adopt a dog, we will complete a home visit which requires all household members to be present.

After the approval is complete you will be free to meet our animals. When meeting dogs, all members of the household as well as any dogs will be required to meet prior to finalizing any adoption.
Our process is thorough and allows us to make every effort to identify the right match for your family. Please be forthcoming of all information during the process as that is what allows us to find the match. Adding a new family member is FOREVER and will adjust your free time, finances and overall life style. Animal adoption is a serious decision.

JR's Pups-N-Stuff, Inc. is a volunteer based organization. Most volunteers have full time jobs and families. Our dedication to helping each and every animal find the right match can take time. Please understand and be patient during the process. Thank you.

    Breed info

The Golden Retriever is a medium-large gun dog that was bred to retrieve shot waterfowl, such as ducks and upland game birds, during hunting and shooting parties. The name "retriever" refers to the breed's ability to retrieve shot game undamaged due to their soft mouth. Golden retrievers have an instinctive love of water, and are easy to train to basic or advanced obedience standards. They are a long-coated breed, with a dense inner coat that provides them with adequate warmth in the outdoors, and an outer coat that lies flat against their bodies and repels water. Golden retrievers are well suited to residency in suburban or country environments. They shed copiously, particularly at the change of seasons, and require fairly regular grooming. The Golden Retriever was originally bred in Scotland in the mid-19th century. The breed is a prominent participant in conformation shows for purebred dogs. The Golden Retriever is popular as a disability assistance dog, such as being a guide dog for the blind and a hearing dog for the deaf. In addition, they are trained to be a hunting dog, a detection dog, and a search and rescue participant. The breed's friendly, gentle temperament means it is unsuited to being a professional guard dog, but its temperament has also made it the third-most popular family dog breed (by registration) in the United States and Canada, the fifth-most popular in Brazil and Australia, and the eighth-most popular in the United Kingdom. Golden Retrievers are rarely choosy eaters, but require ample (two or more hours a day) exercise. The breed is fond of play but also highly trainable.
