Description

Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.

Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website.

We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run.

We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have.

Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt.

General Notes | Looking for a new BFF?  You have to meet Suki, because she is looking too!

Want to adopt this dog?  Please do not email us.  Please fill out the Adoption Application ASAP.

Personality | She loves  people!! She wants to play with everyone. She likes to follow you around and be involved in whatever you are doing. She will lay at your feet while you cook, she'll lay in her bed in the office while you work, she'll lay by the shower door while you shower - you get the picture! Suki also likes to throw toys up in the air and catch them - she likes to see how far she can throw them - she especially likes the sound of her chew bones hitting the hardwood floor. She does not bark much - she does not bark in the crate and will enter the crate with no problem. She might bark if you are in the house and you crate her - maybe even howl. She might also bark playful if she wants you to do something. She likes to sit next to you (maybe at your feet) and sleep next to you, however, she is not a licker ,crowder, or a leaner. Over time - as she matures - she will be a great sidekick, adventurer, excercise enthusiast, and lovebug.

Story | Suki is a high-energy dog but with a strong bonding personality. She will cuddle, but also likes her independence. She wants you to go out with her but will roam and sniff a bit before she does her business.

Other Dogs | Loves to play chase. She is submissive.

Cats | Unknown -  but her breeding of Retriever and Basenji tend to be hunting dogs

Children | Unknown

Training | Suki knows sit, and responds to No, Off, and Down. We are working on Stay, Outside, Go Potty, Bone, Ball, Toy, and Come. If you tell her to "go get your toy" she will. She does climb on furniture. She is also a super jumper. She had no issues jumping into the car and was very curious to watch out the window. She might get excited when she runs towards you - so we are working on not letting her jump at full speed. She has a tendency to jump up on new people. When she is excited and people pet her, she may try to put her mouth around the wrist - we are working on that, too. All said, she seems to respond to training and consistency. She is food motivated so treat training is going well.

Leash | Suki loves the leash and loves walks. She does pull a little, but we are working on keeping her close and limiting distractions. She is curious about other dogs and wants to meet them. She has only barked at one or two when the other dog seemed dominant.

Activity Level | Suki has typical energy for a 9 mo dog. She loves to fetch the ball over and over again - any ball. She searches for things to do so she needs to be engaged and assisted with activities. She does start her evening sleep around 6:00 PM and will sleep through the night. She wakes up around 6:00 AM. She sleeps between my husband and I on the bed all night - does not move.

Health Notes | Healthy & Happy

Thank you! |

Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $425 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $375 for 1-6 years, $325 for dogs 7-10 years, and $175 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $475. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).

Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process.

Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption.

We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!

We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.

    Breed info

The Labrador Retriever, often abbreviated to Labrador, is a breed of retriever-gun dog from the United Kingdom that was developed from imported Canadian fishing dogs. The Labrador is one of the most popular dog breeds in a number of countries in the world, particularly in the Western world. A popular disability assistance breed in many countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid those with blindness or autism, act as a therapy dog, or perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies. The breed is best known for their obedience, loyalty, and playful composure. Additionally, they are prized as sporting and hunting dogs. Ancestors include a breed used in Newfoundland as fishing dogs, that would help in bringing in the fishing nets and recapture escaped fish. In the 1830s, the 10th Earl of Home and his nephews the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Lord John Scott, had imported progenitors of the breed from Newfoundland to Europe for use as gundogs. Another early advocate of these Newfoundland fishing dogs was the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, who bred them for their expertise in waterfowling. During the 1880s, the 3rd Earl of Malmesbury, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch, and the 12th Earl of Home collaborated to develop and establish the Labrador Retriever breed. The dogs Buccleuch Avon and Buccleuch Ned, given by Malmesbury to Buccleuch, were mated with bitches carrying blood from those originally imported by the 5th Duke and the 10th Earl of Home. The offspring are the ancestors of all modern Labradors.
