Meet Sally

Hi, I'm Sally! I'm a ~6-year-old golden lab mix (about 55 lbs), and after five wonderful years with my family, I'm looking for my forever home. I'm intelligent, playful, and deeply affectionate — a world-class snuggler who wants to be near my people, wrapped in a blanket on the couch. But I'm just as happy on a long hike, chasing a tennis ball, or splashing through a stream. I'm house- and crate-trained, calm on walks, off-leash recall trained, and I settle happily on my own without chewing or destroying anything when left home alone.

Quick facts:

  • Age: ~6 years (rescue's estimate)
  • Breed: Golden lab mix
  • Weight: 55 lbs
  • Energy: Medium
  • Training: House-, crate-, e-collar, and off-leash recall trained
  • Health: Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped; no known health concerns
  • Location: Denver, CO

The home where I'll thrive:
I'm a loving but sensitive girl, and I do my best in a calm, predictable home with someone patient who appreciates my adventurous-yet-tentative personality.

  • Adults-only (no children under 12). Fast, unpredictable young-kid energy overwhelms me.
  • Only pet. I've been a happy daycare and boarding camper, but I can be reactive toward unfamiliar dogs in my own space — I'd love to be your one and only, with all the attention to myself.
  • Room to move. I love a backyard plus daily walks, though I've done well in an apartment with enough exercise.

Being fully honest, because the right match matters:
I'm being rehomed for one reason. My family welcomed a baby, and as he's become mobile I've grown anxious around him — recently, I snapped at him. My family isn't willing to risk it, and honestly, neither am I. It's not who I want to be; I'm simply overwhelmed by unpredictable toddler energy. In a calm, adults-only home, I'm the sweet, loyal, joyful dog my family has loved for years. I came from a shelter once before, and we're all hoping this next home is my last, best chapter.

I come with:

  • Up-to-date vet records and full vaccination history
  • Microchip, with registration transferred to you
  • My hard crate and bed, soft travel crate, favorite toys, e-collar and leashes, and current food
  • A written rundown of my routine, commands, and quirks for a smooth first day

Sally’s adoption fee is $375, which will be donated to a local animal shelter. Please contact [email protected] for additional information.

Adoption process

THE FIRST STEP to adopting an EAPL animal is to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION.
EAPL is a foster-based rescue. We do not have a shelter facility where applicants can come look at multiple animals at one time. All of our animals are in foster homes that range from Denver, to Evergreen, to Northeast Colorado - where they are loved and cared for until they are placed in a forever home.
The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our Available Animals you hope to adopt. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific animal, nor does it obligate you to adopt.
Once we have received your application and determined that you are a good match for the requested animal, we will contact you. The foster parent will then contact you to arrange a time for you to meet the animal, at which time you can decide if you would like to complete the adoption. You may be asked to visit the animal more than once before taking it home. After your initial meeting with the animal, one of our volunteers will conduct a home visit. This may occur before you take the animal home or when the animal is delivered to you.
Once the adoption is approved, you will need to complete our Adoption Agreement and pay the adoption fee. We will keep in contact over the next few days to make sure everyone is happy.
IF AT ANY TIME AFTER ADOPTION, YOU DECIDE YOU CAN NOT KEEP THE PET FOR ANY REASON, you must call EAPL and give us the opportunity to get our pet back based on space available.
Our animals are our clients. Our job is to find each of our animals the right home. Rejected applications are not necessarily a reflection on the applicant’s home, but rather based on the determination that the home is not the right match. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our animals have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house trained or spent time with other animals. All, even those who previously have been in loving homes, will need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt to a new life and family. Rescued animals need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard or act nervous or frightened.
Because of the work done in our foster homes and the care we take in matching animals with the right home, most of our animals will fit in their new homes immediately. But some will not. Many will need some form of training.
An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the animal through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued animal a better life. EAPL wants to support you with resources, education, and encouragement for the lifetime of your pet. Please contact us at any time following adoption for assistance.

Adoption fee for all dogs and puppies: $250
Adoption fee for all cats and kittens: $75

Payment will be collected when you get the pet, but will be held until the adoption is final.

Then you will be on your way to your new life with your new family member!

Shelter location

All animals are located in foster homes and would require an arranged meeting. We hold adoptions events throughout the year as well.

    Breed info

The Labrador Retriever, often abbreviated to Labrador, is a breed of retriever-gun dog from the United Kingdom that was developed from imported Canadian fishing dogs. The Labrador is one of the most popular dog breeds in a number of countries in the world, particularly in the Western world. A popular disability assistance breed in many countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid those with blindness or autism, act as a therapy dog, or perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies. The breed is best known for their obedience, loyalty, and playful composure. Additionally, they are prized as sporting and hunting dogs. Ancestors include a breed used in Newfoundland as fishing dogs, that would help in bringing in the fishing nets and recapture escaped fish. In the 1830s, the 10th Earl of Home and his nephews the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Lord John Scott, had imported progenitors of the breed from Newfoundland to Europe for use as gundogs. Another early advocate of these Newfoundland fishing dogs was the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, who bred them for their expertise in waterfowling. During the 1880s, the 3rd Earl of Malmesbury, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch, and the 12th Earl of Home collaborated to develop and establish the Labrador Retriever breed. The dogs Buccleuch Avon and Buccleuch Ned, given by Malmesbury to Buccleuch, were mated with bitches carrying blood from those originally imported by the 5th Duke and the 10th Earl of Home. The offspring are the ancestors of all modern Labradors.
