Baloo is a beautiful and PERFECT 8 year gentle giant, approx 90 lb, wonderful black lab and great dane mix who was surrendered when his family were no longer able to care for him. The REAL Bark has placed him in a foster home and he has proven to be the best boy - gentle and loves dogs of all sizes, housetrained and bonds well with his people. He is a bit shy with new people and brand new environments, but quickly adapts once he knows everyone around him are safe havens, and always gravitates to every nice dog he sees. Because of his gentle giant size and his shyness, which sometimes transpires into nervousness, his perfect home would be one that has a great secure yard where he can romp and exercise without the regular need to walk him on busy streets. He is very chill in the home, enjoys his people and loves being loved and wants to please. Baloo is a super big sweetheart, a perfect dog, and is ready to melt your heart!! Please note that we are currently set up to adopt within the Los Angeles county area.

Adoption process

All of our amazing dogs are fully vetted, fixed, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. They are then fostered by one of our experienced foster volunteers, who are able to assess temperament and personality and begin any necessary training. An adoption application, adoption fee, and home check are required for adoption.

It is a crucial piece of the rescue process, and you can play a huge part in saving a dog's life, all the while deciding if that dog, or any dog, is the right fit for your lifestyle! If you know you can't be a forever owner but want to help out and get a little puppy love in return, this may be just the thing for you!

All supplies, food and veterinary care are provided to the foster by the rescue. No costs involved to you - just provide a safe and loving environment and we will do the rest! Fostering can be as short- or long-term as you would like, and we can place dogs with you that are conducive to your lifestyle and preferences (small, large, hypoallergenic, etc.)

    The Labrador Retriever, often abbreviated to Labrador, is a breed of retriever-gun dog from the United Kingdom that was developed from imported Canadian fishing dogs. The Labrador is one of the most popular dog breeds in a number of countries in the world, particularly in the Western world. A popular disability assistance breed in many countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid those with blindness or autism, act as a therapy dog, or perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies. The breed is best known for their obedience, loyalty, and playful composure. Additionally, they are prized as sporting and hunting dogs. Ancestors include a breed used in Newfoundland as fishing dogs, that would help in bringing in the fishing nets and recapture escaped fish. In the 1830s, the 10th Earl of Home and his nephews the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Lord John Scott, had imported progenitors of the breed from Newfoundland to Europe for use as gundogs. Another early advocate of these Newfoundland fishing dogs was the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, who bred them for their expertise in waterfowling. During the 1880s, the 3rd Earl of Malmesbury, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch, and the 12th Earl of Home collaborated to develop and establish the Labrador Retriever breed. The dogs Buccleuch Avon and Buccleuch Ned, given by Malmesbury to Buccleuch, were mated with bitches carrying blood from those originally imported by the 5th Duke and the 10th Earl of Home. The offspring are the ancestors of all modern Labradors.
