Description

Abyssinian is a cute female Labrador Retriever/Husky mix puppy who was brought to the HSOV on February 15, 2026 along with her seven siblings (Birman, Bombay, Devon Rex, Maine Coon, Munchkin, Ragdoll, and Sphynx). These beautiful puppies were found fending for themselves on River Lane near Marietta Ohio. Fortunately a Good Samaritan found these youngsters and brought them to the safety of our shelter. The puppies were estimated to have been 10-weeks old at that time.

Abyssinian has a sleek black shorthaired coat with white markings on her chest, white toes/paws, a long tail, and an adorable puppy face with hopeful, innocent eyes, a dusting of white on her chin, a slender muzzle, and semi-erect ears.

This little sweetheart has a lovable, playful puppy personality. Abyssinian and her brothers/sisters are sharing their very own room in a quiet area of our shelter, and they are always romping/playing to their heart's content.

These photos of Abyssinian were taken on March 31, 2026. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Techs Liz Stingley and Lauryn Hamilton for assisting each of the puppies with their 'big boy/big girl' pictures that day (and for providing carry-out service to/from their room).

HSOV is currently accepting applications for these adorable youngsters. They are available for foster-to-adopt with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.. And they will be spayed/neutered before they are officially adopted by their foster family.

Adoption process

Our adoption process includes an adoption application which must be completed and approved by our shelter management. We verify veterinarian references and also approval from landlords if the pet will be housed in rental property. Home visits may also be required prior to adoption. All dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Adoption fee for dogs is $150.00 which includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, dog tag, microchip, and spay/neuter.

Adoption fee for cats is $40 and includes vaccinations, wormer, flea treatment, and spay/neuter. Most adult cats (and kittens over 3-months of age) have already been spayed/neutered.

Adoption fees for other species varies.

We are located at 90 Mt. Tom Rd. in Marietta ,Ohio 45750. We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 5:00pm; Sunday from Noon to 3:00pm. . Closed on Monday..

    The Labrador Retriever, often abbreviated to Labrador, is a breed of retriever-gun dog from the United Kingdom that was developed from imported Canadian fishing dogs. The Labrador is one of the most popular dog breeds in a number of countries in the world, particularly in the Western world. A popular disability assistance breed in many countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid those with blindness or autism, act as a therapy dog, or perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies. The breed is best known for their obedience, loyalty, and playful composure. Additionally, they are prized as sporting and hunting dogs. Ancestors include a breed used in Newfoundland as fishing dogs, that would help in bringing in the fishing nets and recapture escaped fish. In the 1830s, the 10th Earl of Home and his nephews the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and Lord John Scott, had imported progenitors of the breed from Newfoundland to Europe for use as gundogs. Another early advocate of these Newfoundland fishing dogs was the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury, who bred them for their expertise in waterfowling. During the 1880s, the 3rd Earl of Malmesbury, the 6th Duke of Buccleuch, and the 12th Earl of Home collaborated to develop and establish the Labrador Retriever breed. The dogs Buccleuch Avon and Buccleuch Ned, given by Malmesbury to Buccleuch, were mated with bitches carrying blood from those originally imported by the 5th Duke and the 10th Earl of Home. The offspring are the ancestors of all modern Labradors.
