Description

FOSTERED IN: Adoption Center - Frankfort, IL 60423
ESTIMATED DOB: March 2020 Astrid, August 2020 Jarvis
COLOR/BREED: Tabbico Domestic Shorthair- Astrid, White Munchkin-Jarvis
KIDS: No
DOGS: Unknown
CATS: No

HISTORY:
Astrid was found as a stray in Louisiana with an abdominal injury when she was just a kitten. Since she was rescued, she continued to have chronic diarrhea and was transferred to our care. Before coming to the rescue, she had made friends with another cat (a Munchkin named Jarvis), and the pair were brought into our program so they can be adopted together.

ABOUT:
Astrid LOVES attention - she really can’t get enough! She is an active, social, in-your-face kinda girl who just wants to play, explore and be by your side at all times. Even though she adores being in the center of all the action, it’s okay if you’re gone during the day because she has her pal, Jarvis, to keep her company. This adventurous gal is always looking for new things to investigate, so be sure to go overboard on supplying her with new toys, scratchers and cat towers so she never gets bored. Fun-loving, sweet and curious; she’s truly everything you could want in a feline companion.

As mentioned in her history, Astrid has chronic diarrhea. After much testing and trials, Astrid had a biopsy performed, and the results came back as inflammatory enteritis (inflammation of the intestines). After a course of B-12 injections, prednisolone and a hydrolyzed diet, we found that she is well-managed on just her dry special prescription diet (which Jarvis eats as well). She will never have perfect bowel movements, but they are always in the litterbox and very manageable. She acts completely normal and has no other known health issues.

Jarvis is a silly, playful guy who is sure to entertain you for hours on end - although it may be from a distance. You see, Jarvis is a bit shy at first, and takes a while to settle into his new environment and to trust the people that live there. Luckily, he has gained some much needed confidence from his bonded buddy, Astrid, and is much more brave interacting with people when he sees her being social with humans. This active, energetic boy can often be found playing with toys or wrestling with Astrid.

Once he gets to know you, Jarvis will tolerate being petted gently, but on his terms when he’s in the mood. Once he tires of the attention, he’ll simply move away from you or nibble/paw at your hands to tell you to go away. He does not like to be picked up or restrained in any way, and due to his sensitive nature, we do not recommend him for a home with children or other pets.

Interested in this energetic, happy girl and her buddy Jarvis to your family? The first step is to fill out our adoption application. More information and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.

Adoption process

We encourage potential adopters to ask friends, family, and Lulu’s Locker about companion animal experiences in their lives. We want to ensure the animal we adopt to you fits well in your home environment. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about long-term animal care prior to adopting! Please contact us via email [email protected]

Everything we do is for the animals in our care, and is aimed at giving them the best possible chance of finding a permanent home.

- Fill out our online Adoption Application to get the process rolling! https://www.luluslockerrescue.org/adoption-process-application

- Once your Application is completed, you will have a phone conversation with an adoption counselor.

- Once you’ve been approved, s/he will fill you in on the personalities, history, and behavior of the animals to allow you to make the best choice possible for your living situation. You can ask your counselor any questions you have regarding health, behavior, and long-term care.

- You and all members of your household will then be invited to visit the foster home or boarding facility where the animal is currently living. If you decide adoption is right for you, you will be asked to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee which covers the spay/neuter, wellness exam, vaccinations, microchip, and heartworm test (dogs only).

- Animals are subject to a home visit prior to completion of the adoption process.

- You will ALWAYS have continued support from Lulu’s Locker after your adoption! We invite you to contact us at any time with questions or concerns!

THANKS FOR CHOOSING ADOPTION!

    Breed info

The Munchkin or Sausage Cat is a new breed of cat characterized by its very short legs, which are caused by a genetic mutation. Much controversy erupted over the breed when it was recognized by The International Cat Association in 1995 with critics voicing concern over potential health and mobility issues. Short-legged cats have been documented a number of times around the world since the 1940s. A British veterinary report in 1944 noted four generations of healthy short-legged cats which were similar to normal cats except for the length of the legs. This line disappeared during the Second World War but other short-legged cats were spotted in Russia during 1956 and the United States in the 1970s.
